Oculus, in particular, has seen exceptional growth in a short amount of time, in large part due to the impact that the lockdown had on the gaming industry as a whole with more players spending their time gaming. However, the platform, in general, is just in a better place than it used to be thanks to advances in technology, availability, a steadfast developer community, and a respectable amount of consumer interest in the platform. Speaking as someone who was relatively disenchanted with VR after spending time with the PSVR headset before eventually selling it , I continue to be impressed and pleasantly surprised by how far VR has come. Mike Verdu - VP of Content at Oculus - recently made a strong case for why VR is here to stay in a blog post in which he described his journey into VR, while highlighting everything that makes him so confident in the platform. Additionally, following Facebook Connect - which took place in September - it only took four and a half months for the Quest platform to go from 35 titles generating revenue in the millions, to nearly double that number.

Another VR fitness platform is on its way to Oculus Quest. This new workout app was recently listed in the Coming Soon section of the Oculus Store. Holofit is quite a different experience, however. The app pairs your headset with compatible fitness machines like bikes, ellipticals and rowing machines. Once you select a workout, you can choose from a range of virtual locations, based on real-life or fictional, and then run, cycle or row through them. Check out a trailer below.
Best VR Headset For 2020: From Oculus Quest 2 To Valve Index
The Oculus Quest 2 has widely been seen as a success, further penetrating the mainstream consumer market with its controlled pricing — even cheaper than the original Quest, with better performance — and it garnered 4. These comments certainly make it sound like an Oculus Quest 3 is in the works, though a vague affirmation to investors doesn't mean a release date is coming anytime soon. It's worth noting that the Quest 2 was launched in October , only a year and a half after the original model; with that timeline in mind, it's possible we'll see a Quest 3 in early , which isn't very far off. It will almost certainly still require a Facebook account to access the platform, though, so anyone keen to stay out of the Facebook ecosystem will likely want to look elsewhere. The Quest 2's upped 90Hz refresh rate is very welcome, though we expect we won't see that increase just yet, given it isn't yet widely supported across the majority of Oculus VR games.
VR is already a great place to hang out with friends, play games, and watch movies. Starting with a bustling town square where people will meet and mingle, the Horizon experience then expands to an interconnected world where people can explore new places, play games, build communities, and even create their own new experiences. Before stepping into Horizon for the first time, people will design their own avatars from an array of style and body options to ensure everyone can fully express their individuality. From there, magic-like portals—called telepods—will transport people from public spaces to new worlds filled with adventure and exploration.
