OEIS complex refers to a combination of defects consisting of omphalocele, exstrophy of the cloaca, imperforate anus, and spinal defects. Possible embryologic mechanisms proposed for these findings have included: a single defect of early blastogenesis or a defect of mesodermal migration during the primitive streak period. Fourteen cases with OEIS complex and related malformations were reviewed for demographic features, prenatal and family histories, and clinical, radiological and pathological findings including the frequency and types of associated anomalies. The pathogenetic mechanisms causing OEIS complex and related malformations, such as anorectal and spinal defects, are discussed.

Imperforate anus repair

VACTERL Association and Birth Defects
This lens is meant for those who have had a baby with imperforate anus or those who may be at risk it can be genetic and tends to skip a generation. Most children go on to live happy, fulfilled lives, while some will suffer from various health issues, depending on the severity of the birth defect. If you are interested in meeting more parents who are dealing with this, there are groups on Facebook. Search for "Imperforate Anus Support" and pick the one that appeals. I used to run a forum for IA parents, but it became too costly to keep up. Quite simply, an imperforate anus is when there is no anal opening. And in other cases, the fistula opens into the urethra or even the vagina, in girls.

OEIS complex (omphalocele-exstrophy-imperforate anus-spinal defects): a review of 14 cases
Lateral invertogram is taken to show the position of the most distal portion of the rectum to determine whether it is a high or low anal atresia. Plain lateral invertogram is used to investigate the extent of defect in the anal or rectal atresia. The anus is marked with radiopaque marker and the baby is inverted. A lateral radiograph is taken: gas within the rectum will rise to the highest point indicating the extent of the atresia. Updating… Please wait.

Omphalocele, exstrophy of the bladder, imperforate anus and spinal defect OEIS complex is a rare congenital multisystemic malformation representing unique anomalies. It was first reported in through a series of cases with an abnormality of body wall development. We are reporting a case of an infant of 36 weeks gestation, with a family history of consanguinity and oral contraceptive pill intake that was discontinued when the mother was 1-month pregnant. The neonatal examination revealed findings that were consistent with OEIS complex along with the presence of genital anomalies.
